Coach | Owner

Cassie Johnson

Cassie is the heart behind Tally Ho, known for her energy, grit, and ability to make people believe in themselves long before they believe it on their own. With years of experience as both an athlete and gym owner, she has built a community centered around excellence, connection, and growth. Her coaching style blends intensity with empathy, ensuring every athlete feels seen, challenged, and valued. Whether on the floor or in one-on-one conversations, Cassie brings her full self to the people she serves.

Turning Point:

Cassie’s journey into coaching wasn’t just about fitness, it was about finding her way back to herself. After years of chasing perfection and pouring into everyone else first, she realized that real strength starts with honesty, vulnerability, and a willingness to grow. That shift became her turning point, both personally and professionally. It’s what inspired her to create an environment where others could experience the same kind of transformation, one that starts from the inside out

Motivation & Passion:

Cassie’s passion is helping people see what’s possible when they stop playing small. She thrives on watching members hit their first pull-up, push through a hard WOD, or find community in moments they least expect it. Her motivation comes from the belief that fitness is just the vehicle, the real work is becoming the kind of person who doesn’t quit. Every day, she strives to create world-class experiences that build confidence, character, and connection inside and outside the gym.

During Covid, I was laid off from my warehouse job and pursued my Personal Training certification. The week the world opened back up I walked into Tally Ho with no experience, a resume, and a NASM CPT. Cassie asked me to show up the next day at 5 am. I did the workout fight gone bad for my first CrossFit classes ever. I scrubbed toilets, cleaned the floors, and interned under the coaches until I took my L1 and the rest is history.

Turning Point:

My turning point was being forced to step away from the 9-5 during Covid. Once removed I knew I couldn’t go back. I had to figure out how to work and pursue something I was passionate about.

Motivation & Passion:

My motivation is seeing people achieve feats they never imagined possible for themselves. I know that every small victory my athletes and I share inches them closer to the “why” behind training.

CF-L3
Burgener Strength Weightlifting L1
Functional Gymnastics Trainer

Lauryn Self

From a young age, I have always been part of a team and engaged in physical activity. I danced and twirled competitively for 14 years and participated in track and field throughout middle and high school. This active lifestyle instilled in me a strong appreciation for health, community, high standards, and a bit of healthy competition.

In 2016, my husband introduced me to CrossFit, which perfectly aligned with those values. Alongside my passion for sports, I have always been dedicated to helping others, and I currently work full-time as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. In 2021, I took this passion a step further by becoming a CrossFit trainer, allowing me to support and inspire others on their fitness journeys.

Turning Point:

A significant turning point in my life came in 2021 when I chose to pursue coaching. After five years of focusing on my own CrossFit journey, Coach Cassie and Kevin encouraged me to share my skills with our community. This sparked a period of reflection on how CrossFit had transformed my life, both physically and mentally.

Becoming a CrossFit trainer reignited my passion and purpose, deepening my commitment to helping others thrive while also inspiring me to be a better version of myself.

Motivation & Passion:

Coaching allows me to combine my love for physical activity with my desire to support others. I find immense joy in watching clients grow stronger, both physically and mentally. I thrive on helping them push past their limits, embrace the process, and celebrate their progress. Witnessing someone achieve a personal best or conquer a new skill is one of the most rewarding aspects of coaching for me.

Creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and empowered is central to my coaching philosophy. I believe that fitness should be accessible to all, and I strive to foster a sense of community that motivates each individual to succeed.

CrossFit Level 2 Certification
CrossFit Gymnastics Certification
CrossFit Nutrition Certification

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: help people in Cullman train consistently and become stronger in real life. We’re building a gym where people feel known, supported, and coached with intention, not just “worked out.”

Our story

Tally Ho Fitness was built because Cullman didn’t need another gym full of machines and guesswork, it needed coaching, structure, and a place where people feel like they belong. That sense of community is something you’ll hear about again and again from members.

Since becoming a CrossFit affiliate in recent years, the gym has grown into a welcoming space for beginners, busy professionals, and experienced athletes who want training that’s challenging—but still supportive. And as our team has grown, so has our commitment to doing things the right way: good coaching, clear standards, and a culture that helps people stay consistent.
